Questions & Answers about El rendimiento es notable; sin embargo, el precio es decepcionante.
How does sin embargo work here, and what are the punctuation rules around it?
Sin embargo is a formal connector meaning "however" or "nevertheless," used to introduce a contrasting idea. When connecting two independent clauses (full sentences) like we have here, you usually place a semicolon before it and a comma right after it.
Could I just use pero instead of sin embargo in this sentence?
You definitely could! You could simply say ...es notable, pero el precio es decepcionante. Using pero (but) is more casual. Sin embargo elevates the tone, making it sound more formal and emphasizing the contrast, just like choosing "however" over "but" in English.
Why does this sentence use es decepcionante instead of está? Isn't disappointment a temporary feeling?
You are thinking of how a person feels! If you feel disappointed, you use estar: estoy decepcionado. But here, we are describing the price itself. The price has the characteristic of causing disappointment, so it is a decepcionante (disappointing) price. For describing traits and characteristics of things, we use ser.
Does rendimiento only refer to the performance of electronics or machines?
It is very common for machines, tech, or vehicles, but rendimiento is a broad term. It refers to how well something produces results or how efficient it is. It can also mean "yield" in agriculture, "return" in finance, or a person's "performance" at work or school.
