Why does the Spanish sentence say "the three of April" (el tres de abril) instead of using a word for "third"?
In Spanish, we use regular numbers like tres (three) or diez (ten) for dates, not ordinal numbers like "third" or "tenth". So "April third" translates literally to "the three of April". The only exception is the first day of the month, which is el primero.
Why isn't the month abril capitalized?
In Spanish, the names of the months and the days of the week are always written in lowercase, unless they are the very first word of a sentence.
Where does the word del come from?
del is a mandatory contraction. When the word de (of) is immediately followed by the masculine word for "the", which is el, they mash together into del. So del concierto means "of the concert".
Why do we use es instead of está to talk about a date?
To give the date, time, or location of an event like a concert, you always use the verb ser (here, es). We don't use estar for dates or times.
