Questions & Answers about ¿Él practica deportes aquí?
Why isn't there a word for "does" in the Spanish sentence?
In English, we use helper words like "do" or "does" to ask yes/no questions. Spanish doesn't do this! To make a question in Spanish, you just take the normal statement (él practica, meaning "he practices") and add question marks. When speaking, you simply raise the pitch of your voice at the end to show you are asking a question.
Could I switch the order and say ¿Practica él deportes aquí?
Do I have to include él in this question?
Not always. If it's already clear who you are talking about from a previous conversation, you can just ask ¿Practica deportes aquí? However, because practica can mean "he practices," "she practices," or "you (formal) practice," keeping él in the sentence makes it completely clear exactly who you mean.
Why is there an upside-down question mark (¿) at the beginning?
