Why do we use está here instead of es?
In Spanish, there are two verbs for "to be": ser and estar. We use estar (like está here) for physical or mental states, such as being tired. If we used es, it would sound like being tired is her permanent personality trait!
Why is there an accent mark on está?
The accent mark shows which syllable gets the stress when speaking. It is also very important for spelling because it tells this word apart from esta (without an accent), which means "this" (as in esta señora, "this lady").
Why does cansada end in an "a"?
Adjectives in Spanish have to match the noun they describe. Because la señora is a feminine, singular noun, the adjective for "tired" must also be feminine and singular (cansada instead of the masculine cansado).
Can I put ahora at the beginning of the sentence?
Yes! Spanish is quite flexible with time words. You could absolutely say Ahora la señora está cansada and it would mean the exact same thing.
