### The Accidental "se"

In English, when we drop or break something, we usually take the blame directly: "I broke the ornament." In Spanish, to emphasize that an action was a genuine accident, we use a special construction that shifts the blame away from the person. Literally, it translates closer to "The ornament broke on me."

### How to Form It

To build this structure, use this formula:

**se** + **indirect object pronoun** + **verb**

- **se**: Always stays the same. It signals that the event was unintentional.
- **indirect object pronoun** (*me, te, le, nos, les*): Tells us *who* the accident happened to.
- **verb**: Conjugated to match the *item* that was affected, not the person. If one thing breaks, use the singular form. If multiple things break, use the plural.
