Questions & Answers about Хотя турбина работает хорошо, мы можем настроить её в зависимости от качества бензина.
How does the compound preposition в зависимости от affect the words that follow it?
В зависимости от means "depending on" and always requires the Genitive case for the object it points to. Because of this, the neuter noun качество (quality) changes to its Genitive form, качества.
Why are there two Genitive words in a row at the end of the sentence (качества бензина)?
The first word, качества, is in the Genitive case because it is governed by the preposition в зависимости от. The second word, бензина, is in the Genitive case to show possession or association, translating to "of the gasoline". Chaining Genitive nouns like this is a very common way to link concepts in Russian without needing extra prepositions.
Why do we use the perfective verb настроить after можем, instead of the imperfective настраивать?
We use the perfective настроить because the speaker is talking about the ability to successfully complete the tuning process to achieve a specific result. If you used the imperfective настраивать, it would imply the ability to just spend time on the continuous process of tuning, without focusing on getting it fully adjusted.
Why is the feminine pronoun её (her) used to translate "it"?
In Russian, pronouns must match the grammatical gender of the noun they replace, even for inanimate objects. Here, "it" refers back to турбина (turbine), which is a feminine noun. Since it serves as the direct object of the verb настроить, we use the Accusative feminine pronoun её.
