Breakdown of Proiectul meu începe în luna ianuarie.

Questions & Answers about Proiectul meu începe în luna ianuarie.

Why is it Proiectul meu and not just Proiect meu?

In Romanian, when you use a possessive word like meu (my), the noun before it must usually have the definite article attached to its end. You are literally saying the project my. The noun proiect gets the ending -ul to become proiectul (the project), and then you add meu.

What gender is the noun proiect?

It is a neuter noun. In Romanian, neuter nouns act like masculine nouns in the singular, which is why it takes the masculine ending -ul to mean the project. In the plural, neuter nouns act like feminine nouns, so the plural is proiecte (projects).

Why does the sentence say èn luna ianuarie instead of just èn ianuarie?

You can actually say either! Both èn luna ianuarie (literally in the month of January) and èn ianuarie (in January) are perfectly correct and widely used in Romanian. Adding the word luna (the month) is very common and just sounds a bit more complete or formal.

Which form of the verb a èncepe (to begin) is used here?
