Keeping your home spotless is easier when you know exactly what tools to ask for and what chores need to be done. In this lesson, we will master the essential vocabulary for deep cleaning.
Floors and Carpets
Let's start with the floors. One of the heaviest but most useful tools you will use is aspiratorul (the vacuum cleaner). The verb for using it is a aspira (to vacuum).
For hard floors, vacuuming might not be enough. You will often need to wash them using mopul (the mop).
Sweeping and Dusting
If you are just sweeping up a quick mess, you will need to gather the dirt on fărașul (the dustpan).
To clean dry surfaces like tables and shelves, you will wipe away the dust using cârpa (the cloth).
Scrubbing Tiles
Sometimes wiping isn't enough, and you have to use the verb a freca (to scrub) to remove tough stains.
When cleaning a bathroom or kitchen, you will encounter two specific Romanian words for ceramic tiles. The language distinguishes between them based on where they are installed: floor tiles are called gresia, while wall tiles are called faianța.
The Final Touches
After scrubbing or washing with soap, the next step is a clăti (to rinse) to remove the suds.
Finally, to get rid of the smell of strong cleaning solutions and bring in fresh breeze, it is always a good idea to open the windows. The verb for this is a aerisi (to air out).
