Questions & Answers about Nós saímos agora, mas não sabemos o caminho.
Why does saímos have an accent mark?
The accent shows that the a and the i are pronounced in separate syllables rather than blending together into a single sound. While the verb sair (to leave) is irregular in some forms like eu saio (I leave), the nós form saímos actually uses the standard -ir ending, just with this accent added for pronunciation!
This lesson is about irregular verbs, but sabemos looks like a regular conjugation. Is it actually irregular?
Could I use conhecemos instead of sabemos here since the sentence is about a physical place?
You could, but it changes the meaning slightly. You use saber for facts and information, so sabemos o caminho means knowing the directions to get there. If you used conhecer (used for familiarity with people and places), conhecemos o caminho would mean you have traveled that road before and are visually familiar with it.
The English translation says We are leaving. Why doesn't the Portuguese use the continuous form (estamos a sair)?
