Questions & Answers about Trabalho na escola e estudo em casa.
Why is there no word for "I" in this sentence?
In Portuguese, the subject pronoun eu (I) is often left out because the verb endings already tell us who is doing the action. Trabalho means "I work" and estudo means "I study".
Why does the sentence use na for the school, but em for home?
Na is a combination of the preposition em (in/at) and the feminine word for "the" (a). So, na escola literally means "at the school". However, the word casa (home) doesn't take a "the" when you talk about your own home, just like in English. So we just use em casa (at home).
Both verbs end in "-o". Is that a pattern?
Yes! For regular verbs in the present tense, the "I" form almost always ends in -o. The verb trabalhar (to work) becomes trabalho, and estudar (to study) becomes estudo.
