A vossa competição de ginástica é amanhã?

Questions & Answers about A vossa competição de ginástica é amanhã?

Why do we use a vossa for "your" here instead of a sua?
In European Portuguese, vossa is the possessive for vocês (plural informal "you"). You use it when asking two or more people about their competition. A sua would be used if you were speaking to one person formally (você), or if you meant "his", "her", or "their".
Is the word a mandatory before vossa?
Yes! In European Portuguese, you almost always need a definite article (o, a, os, or as) before a possessive word when it comes before a noun. Leaving it out and saying just vossa competição sounds unnatural in Portugal.
Why do we say competição de ginástica instead of ginástica competição?
In Portuguese, you can't stack nouns like you do in English (where "gymnastics" acts like a descriptive word right before "competition"). Instead, you put the main noun first and connect them with de (of), literally saying "competition of gymnastics".
Why use é (from the verb ser) for something happening tomorrow? Doesn't estar make more sense for a temporary time?
We always use ser when talking about when or where an event takes place. Even though the time (tomorrow) might feel temporary, the competition itself is a scheduled event, so ser is the correct verb.
