Questions & Answers about Ponieważ generałowie są zmęczeni, musimy odwołać to spotkanie.
Why do we use the ending -owie for generałowie?
The noun generał refers to a male person with a military rank or title. In the nominative plural, important titles, professions, and family members for men often take the special masculine personal (virile) ending -owie instead of the standard plural endings.
Why is the adjective zmęczeni instead of zmęczone?
Because generałowie is a masculine personal (virile) noun, the adjective describing it must also be in the masculine personal plural form. For the adjective zmęczony (tired), the ending changes to -eni to match the group of men.
Could I start this sentence with bo instead of ponieważ?
It is much better to use ponieważ here. While both mean because or since, ponieważ is slightly more formal and is the correct choice for starting a sentence. Starting a sentence with bo sounds very colloquial and is usually avoided in written Polish.
Why is the verb odwołać used instead of its imperfective pair odwoływać?
We use the perfective verb odwołać because it refers to a single, one-time action that will be completed. We only need to cancel this specific meeting once, not repeatedly.
