Questions & Answers about Oni muszą znaleźć swój kompromis i dogadać się.
How does się work with the verb dogadać in this sentence?
The word się acts as a reciprocal pronoun here. While the base verb gadać means to talk, dogadać się means to reach an agreement or to figure things out together. Because the subject is plural (Oni), the się shows that they are doing this action with each other.
Could we use the preposition z (with) after dogadać się?
Not in this exact sentence, because they are reaching an agreement with each other. However, if one person were making an agreement with someone else, you would use z plus the Instrumental case. For example: On musi dogadać się z nią (He must reach an agreement with her).
Why does the sentence use swój instead of ich for their?
Swój is a reflexive possessive pronoun that means one's own. You always use it when the owner is the subject of the sentence. Since Oni (they) are finding their own compromise, we use swój. If you used ich, it would mean they are finding a compromise that belongs to a completely different group of people.
Why are the verbs znaleźć and dogadać in their infinitive (dictionary) forms?
They are both linked to the modal verb muszą (they must). When you use a modal verb, only the modal verb is conjugated to match the subject. Any verbs that follow it to describe the action stay in the infinitive.
