Questions & Answers about ملکه مرد، که این امر موجب نابودی کندو شد.
Why does the sentence use که این امر instead of just که to mean "which"?
In English, we use "which" to refer to a noun, but also to refer back to a whole situation (like "The queen died"). In Farsi, using only که to refer to an entire clause can feel ambiguous. To clearly point back to the whole preceding event, Farsi adds a summary noun phrase like این امر (this matter) or این مسئله (this issue) immediately after که. It literally translates as "that this matter caused...".
How does the grammar of موجب نابودی ... شد work to mean "caused the destruction"?
The word موجب means "cause" or "reason." When combined with شد (the past tense of to become), it forms a compound structure literally meaning "became the cause of." You must link it to the following noun with an Ezafe, making it موجبِ نابودی (mojeb-e nâbudi).
Could I use باعث شد instead of موجب شد in this sentence?
Yes, they are completely interchangeable here. باعثِ نابودی شد (bâ'es-e nâbudi shod) means exactly the same thing. موجب simply sounds a bit more formal, which pairs nicely with the formal-sounding phrase این امر.
Where exactly do the Ezafe vowels go in the phrase موجب نابودی کندو?
There are two hidden Ezafe links here: موجبِ نابودیِ کندو (mojeb-e nâbudi-e kandu). The first links the cause to the destruction (cause of destruction), and the second links the destruction to the hive (destruction of the hive).
