Questions & Answers about حتی اگر اقدام به توافق کنید، آنها قبول نمیکنند.
How does the "eqdâm be" construction work in this sentence?
This sentence uses the structure eqdâm be (taking action/proceeding to) followed by a noun, which in this case is tavâfoq (agreement). Combined with the auxiliary verb kardan (conjugated here as konid), it forms a compound action meaning "to proceed to an agreement" or "to take steps to agree".
Could I use the long infinitive "tavâfoq kardan" instead of just the noun "tavâfoq" here?
Grammatically, yes. The current lesson teaches that eqdâm be can be followed by a long infinitive, so you could technically say eqdâm be tavâfoq kardan konid. However, because the main auxiliary verb is already konid (from kardan), stacking them as kardan konid sounds quite clunky. Using just the noun tavâfoq is much more natural and elegant.
Why is the first verb "konid" in the subjunctive mood rather than the indicative "mikonid"?
The phrase hattâ agar (even if) introduces a conditional clause about a hypothetical situation. In Farsi, the verb in the "if" clause describing a hypothetical condition requires the subjunctive mood, which is why we drop the mi- prefix and use konid.
The English translation says "they will not accept," so why is "nemikonand" in the present tense?
In Farsi Type 1 conditional sentences (If X happens, Y will happen), the result clause heavily relies on the present indicative tense (with the mi- prefix) to express a future outcome. While you could technically use the strict future tense with khâhand, the present tense is standard and sounds much more natural for this in everyday usage.
