Questions & Answers about فنرها در ساعتهای قدیمی زود فرسوده میشود.
Why is the verb میشود in the singular form when the subject فنرها (springs) is plural?
This is a key rule in Farsi: inanimate plural subjects (things that are not alive, like springs, rocks, or chairs) usually take a 3rd-person singular verb. So instead of using the plural میشوند, we use the singular میشود.
How does the compound verb فرسوده میشود work in this sentence?
The word فرسوده means 'worn out' or 'exhausted.' It is paired with میشود, which is the present tense of شدن (to become). Together, they form the compound verb فرسوده شدن (to become worn out, or to wear out).
Why is there an ezafe connection in ساعتهای قدیمی?
The ezafe is the hidden linking sound used to connect a noun to its adjective. Here, it connects the plural noun ساعتها (watches) to the adjective قدیمی (old). Since ساعتها ends in a vowel sound, the ezafe is pronounced as a 'ye' sound to link them smoothly.
Does زود mean 'early' or 'quickly' here?
Both! In Farsi, زود literally means 'early,' but it is frequently used to mean 'quickly,' 'fast,' or 'soon' depending on the context. Saying the springs wear out 'early' in their lifespan naturally means they wear out 'quickly.'
