Questions & Answers about باد دارد تغییر میکند، پس ممکن است تلاطم داشته باشیم.
Why do we use dâshte bâshim here instead of the regular present tense dârim?
The phrase momken ast (it is possible) expresses probability and uncertainty. In Farsi, verbs following expressions of probability must be in the present subjunctive mood because the action hasn't actually happened yet and isn't guaranteed.
I thought the subjunctive usually starts with a be- prefix. Why doesn't dâshte bâshim have one?
The verb dâshtan (to have) has an irregular subjunctive form. Instead of taking the standard be- prefix, it combines its past participle (dâshte) with the present subjunctive forms of 'to be' (bâsham, bâshi, bâshim, etc.). So, 'that we have' becomes dâshte bâshim.
Could I add the word ke (that) after momken ast?
Yes, you can definitely say momken ast ke talâtom dâshte bâshim. In everyday Farsi, the connecting word ke is very frequently dropped after impersonal expressions like momken ast or ehtemâl dârad, but the second verb must still remain in the subjunctive mood.
As a quick refresher, why is dârad placed before taghyir mikonad in the first part of the sentence?
This creates the present continuous tense, showing that the wind is actively changing right now. It is formed using the present tense of dâshtan as a helper verb (here, dârad for 'it has') immediately followed by the main verb in the standard present tense (taghyir mikonad).
