Questions & Answers about کاش لباس فضایی میپوشیدم و آن ستارهی درخشان را از نزدیک میدیدم.
Why are the verbs میپوشیدم and میدیدم in the past continuous tense if the translation says "I wish I was wearing"?
When using کاش to express a wish about the present that isn't coming true (like wishing you were in space right now), Farsi uses the past continuous tense. You form this with the می prefix, the past stem, and the personal ending. This is very similar to English, where we use the past tense "was wearing" for a present wish!
How does the phrase از نزدیک work here?
The word نزدیک means near or close, and از means from. Combined as از نزدیک, it translates to "from up close" or "closely". It is a fixed phrase used whenever you talk about seeing, examining, or experiencing something at close range instead of from afar.
Why is there a ی added to ستاره in the phrase آن ستارهی درخشان؟
The word ستاره (star) ends with a silent "h" (ه). To link it to the adjective درخشان (bright) using the ezâfe (the "e" sound connecting nouns and adjectives), Farsi requires a bridge letter between the vowels. We use the letter ی for this, which makes the pronunciation flow smoothly as setâre-ye.
Why does the object marker را come after the adjective درخشان instead of the noun ستاره؟
The marker را shows us the definite direct object, and its rule is that it must attach to the very end of the entire object phrase. Because the whole object in this sentence is "that bright star", را has to wait until after the adjective درخشان to close the phrase.
