Questions & Answers about آیا تو آکواریومی را که من در آن کار میکنم، دوست داری؟
Why do we say dar ân (in it) when the English translation just says 'that I work in'?
This is how Farsi handles prepositions in relative clauses (phrases starting with ke). Instead of saying 'in which' or ending the sentence with 'in' like we do in English, Farsi keeps the preposition and adds a pronoun inside the clause. So, it literally translates to '...that I work in it.' This pronoun (ân) refers back to the aquarium.
Why do we use ân here instead of u?
We use ân (that/it) because âkvâriyum is an inanimate object. If you were talking about a person, like 'the boss that I work for', you would use the human pronoun u (he/she) after the preposition instead.
Why does âkvâriyumi have an -i at the end, and why is râ placed right after it?
The -i suffix here connects the noun to the relative clause ke, acting as a pointer that means 'the particular aquarium that...'. Because the speaker is asking if you like a specific aquarium, we need the definite object marker râ. The standard order for this is noun + -i + râ + ke.
Why is the main verb dust dâri separated from the subject to by such a long distance?
Farsi sentences generally follow a Subject-Object-Verb order. The subject is to (you), the entire object is the long phrase âkvâriyumi râ ke man dar ân kâr mi-konam (the aquarium that I work in), and the main verb is dust dâri (you like). The relative clause makes the object part very long, which pushes the main verb to the very end of the sentence!
