Questions & Answers about ممکن است که این دستگاه خطرناک باشد.
Why does the sentence end with bâshad instead of ast?
Because it follows the phrase momken ast ke (it is possible that). This phrase requires the verb in the second part of the sentence to be in the present subjunctive form. The present subjunctive for the third-person singular (it/he/she) of the verb 'to be' is bâshad.
Can I leave out the word ke?
Yes, you can. Just like the English word 'that' in the phrase 'It is possible that', the word ke is often dropped in everyday spoken Farsi. You will frequently hear people just say momken ast in dastgâh khatarnâk bâshad.
Since momken ast means 'it is possible', how would I change it to say 'I might' or 'it is possible for me'?
You do not need to change momken ast at all! It is an impersonal phrase, meaning it stays exactly the same regardless of who is doing the action. To say 'I might', you keep momken ast and simply change the subjunctive verb at the end of the sentence to the 'I' form.
Is dastgâh used for all types of machines?
It is a very broad and useful word. It is used for physical machines, equipment, and devices of all sizes, from a small kitchen appliance to a massive factory machine. It can even be used for non-physical systems, like the human digestive system or a government apparatus.
