Why is "these" written as singular این instead of the plural اینها before داوطلبان?
When demonstrative words like این (this/these) or آن (that/those) are used directly before a noun, they always stay in their singular form. You only use plural forms like اینها when they stand alone as pronouns (for example, if you just said "These are volunteers").
Why do "volunteers" (داوطلبان) and "families" (خانوادهها) use different plural endings?
The suffix ها is the standard plural marker for almost any noun in Farsi. The ان ending is a slightly more formal plural marker reserved exclusively for living things, like people (داوطلبان), animals, or plants. Both are perfectly correct here, but ان cannot be used for inanimate objects.
Why is the preposition به (to) used before the needy people?
The compound verb کمک کردن (to help) requires the preposition به to introduce the person receiving the help. While in English you directly "help someone", in Farsi you literally "do help to someone".
Why does خانوادههای have a visible ی at the end, but مردم doesn't, even though both are followed by adjectives?
Both phrases use the Ezafe (a linking "e" sound) to connect the noun to its adjective. For مردم, the Ezafe is just an unwritten sound added to the final consonant. However, because the plural word خانوادهها ends in a vowel (the "a" sound), Farsi requires adding a visible ی (y) to bridge the gap before the Ezafe, making it خانوادههای فقیر.
