Questions & Answers about ما دربارهی این شایعه حقیقت را نمیدانیم.
Why does dar bâre have a -ye at the end here?
dar bâre is a compound preposition, which means it uses an ezafe (a linking vowel) to connect to the noun that follows it. Because the word bâre ends in a silent 'h' (an 'e' sound), the ezafe takes the form of -ye.
Can I use the other 'about' prepositions from this lesson instead of dar bâre-ye?
Absolutely. You can swap it with dar mored-e or râje' be without changing the meaning of the sentence at all. They are all very common ways to say 'about' or 'regarding' and can be used interchangeably here.
Why is the object marker râ placed after haghighat (truth) and not after the rumor?
The word râ marks the specific direct object of the verb. You have to ask yourself: what is it that we do not know? We do not know the truth (haghighat). The rumor is just the object of the preposition 'about', not the direct object of the verb 'to know'.
Could I say this with a different word order?
Yes! Farsi word order is quite flexible in the middle of the sentence, as long as the verb stays at the end. You could naturally say mâ haghighat râ dar bâre-ye in shâye'e nemidânim. The current sentence puts the 'about this rumor' phrase earlier simply to give it a little more emphasis.
