Questions & Answers about ما به معلم کمک میکنیم و یک کتاب پیدا میکنیم.
Why are there two words for 'we help' (کمک میکنیم) and 'we find' (پیدا میکنیم)?
These are compound verbs, which are very common in Farsi! They are made of a base word plus a helper verb. کمک means 'help' or 'assistance' and پیدا means 'visible' or 'found'. The second part is میکنیم, which is the present tense 'we' form of کردن (to do/make). So literally, you are saying 'we do assistance' and 'we make found'.
If I want to change these verbs to 'I help' or 'they find', which part of the compound verb do I change?
You only change the helper verb at the very end! The first word (کمک or پیدا) always stays exactly the same. For example, to say 'I help', you just change میکنیم (we do) to the 'I' form میکنم (I do), giving you کمک میکنم.
Why is there a به (to) before the teacher? The English translation doesn't say 'to the teacher'.
In Farsi, some verbs require a specific preposition that doesn't match English. The compound verb کمک کردن (to help) requires you to give help 'to' someone. That is why we must use به (to) right before معلم (teacher).
We learned that direct objects take the word را after them. Why isn't it یک کتاب را پیدا میکنیم?
The word را is only used for specific, definite direct objects (like 'the book', 'my book', or 'this book'). Since we are just finding 'a book' (یک کتاب), which is general and indefinite, we do not use را.
