The verb vertegenwoordigen is quite long! How can I break it down to remember its meaning?
You can split it into recognizable parts. The core is tegenwoordig, which means "present" or "currently". When you add the prefix ver- and the suffix -en, it turns into a verb meaning "to make present". If you make a group of people "present" in a discussion, you represent them.
Why does the sentence use onze instead of ons?
Because doelgroep is a de-word (de groep). The Dutch word for "our" is onze before singular de-words and all plural nouns. You only use ons before singular het-words (like ons huis).
How do we know the gender of a compound noun like doelgroep?
