Citing Evidence with Blijken uit
To state that a conclusion is drawn from specific data or research, use the verb blijken (to turn out / to appear) combined with the preposition uit (from).
When citing a source, start with uit followed by the source (like a report or chart). Because this phrase takes the first position, it triggers inversion, placing the verb blijkt immediately after it. Introduce your conclusion with dat, which forms a subordinate clause (pushing its verbs to the end).
| From the chart it appears that the target audience is young. | Uit het diagram blijkt dat de doelgroep jong is. |
| From this chart it appears that our market share is rising. | Uit dit diagram blijkt dat ons marktaandeel stijgt. |
Discussing Market Research
When analyzing market trends, you will often discuss who is buying and how much they can spend. Key concepts include your target audience (de doelgroep), a specific portion of the market (het segment), and consumer purchasing power (de koopkracht).
| These consumers represent our most important target audience. | Deze consumenten vertegenwoordigen onze belangrijkste doelgroep. |
| From the research it appears that the purchasing power in this segment is decreasing. | Uit het onderzoek blijkt dat de koopkracht in dit segment afneemt. |
Forecasts and Fluctuations
To talk about future expectations based on data, use de prognose (the forecast). Just like in financial markets, your data might predict growth, or it might show a fluctuation (de schommeling).
| From the forecast it appears that a large fluctuation is coming. | Uit de prognose blijkt dat er een grote schommeling aankomt. |
Drawing Undeniable Conclusions
When evidence points clearly to a specific reality—such as the dominance of a market leader (de marktleider)—you can describe the conclusion or trend as onmiskenbaar (unmistakable).
| It is unmistakable that the market leader has a lot of influence. | Het is onmiskenbaar dat de marktleider veel invloed heeft. |
| This fluctuation in the revenue is unmistakable, however. | Deze schommeling in de omzet is echter onmiskenbaar. |
