Questions & Answers about Alles in aanmerking nemende, zal de alliantie het conflict winnen.
Why does the present participle nemend have an extra -e at the end here?
In fixed rhetorical phrases like alles in aanmerking nemende, the present participle often gets an extra -e. This is a leftover from older Dutch case grammar. You will also see this formal ending in similar absolute constructions like dat gezegd hebbende (having said that).
Why does zal come before the subject de alliantie?
The participial phrase Alles in aanmerking nemende acts as the first element of the main sentence. Because Dutch uses strict Verb-Second (V2) word order, the conjugated verb zal must take the second slot, causing inversion and pushing the subject de alliantie into the third position.
Does Dutch use participial clauses like this often, just like English does with '-ing' words?
Generally, no. English frequently uses '-ing' phrases to connect ideas, which Dutch usually translates with conjunctions like terwijl or omdat alongside a fully conjugated verb. However, these absolute phrases used for sentence-level framing are notable exceptions that you should memorize as fixed, formal chunks.
What is the root infinitive phrase for 'taking into consideration'?
The dictionary form is iets in aanmerking nemen. The noun aanmerking means consideration or eligibility. It is a highly useful phrase to use in formal writing, debates, or when drawing a final conclusion.
