Questions & Answers about De arts deelt zijn inzichten over onze poriën.
Why does poriën only have one e, unlike plurals such as ideeën or kopieën?
It depends on where the stress falls in the singular word. In porie, the stress is on the first syllable (po-rie). When the ending -ie is unstressed, we simply add an -n and put a trema on the existing e to show a new syllable begins, giving us poriën. Words with the stress on the final syllable, like idee or kopie, get an entirely new -en added, resulting in ideeën and kopieën.
Are arts and dokter exactly the same thing?
They refer to the same profession but have a slightly different tone. Arts is the formal, official medical title for a physician. Dokter is the everyday, conversational word you would use when talking to friends or when addressing the doctor directly.
Just as a refresher, why do we use onze here instead of ons?
Because poriën is a plural noun. Regardless of whether a word is a de-word or a het-word in the singular, all plural nouns in Dutch act as de-words. Therefore, they always take the possessive pronoun onze. You only use ons for singular het-words.
