Questions & Answers about Deze docent is even aardig als de arts.
How does the comparison work in this sentence?
To say that things are equal, Dutch uses the structure even ... als. You just place the adjective in the middle: even aardig als means 'as nice as'.
The lesson also mentions net zo ... als. Could I use that here?
Yes! You can absolutely say Deze docent is net zo aardig als de arts. There is no difference in meaning between even ... als and net zo ... als, so you can choose whichever you prefer.
Why do we use deze instead of dit for the word teacher?
Docent is a de word (de docent). When pointing out a de word, you always use deze for 'this' and die for 'that'. You only use dit for het words.
What is the difference between arts and dokter?
Both mean 'doctor' and can be used interchangeably in everyday conversation. Arts is a bit more formal and is often used in compound words for specialists, like tandarts (dentist) or dierenarts (vet).
