Questions & Answers about Dit product is goed, maar dat model is beter.
How does the comparative form work for goed here?
Just like in English where "good" becomes "better", the Dutch word goed has an irregular comparative form. Instead of adding "-er" to make "goeder", it completely changes to beter.
Why do we use dit for the product but dat for the model?
Both product and model are het words. We use dit (this) for a het word that is physically or conceptually close by, and dat (that) for a het word that is further away. If they were de words, you would use deze and die.
Why don't goed and beter get an -e at the end?
Adjectives generally only get an extra -e when they are placed directly in front of the noun they describe. Because goed and beter are placed after the verb is in this sentence, they keep their basic, uninflected forms.
Does the word maar change the word order in the second half of the sentence?
