Questions & Answers about Op vrijdag hebben we een lange training.
Why do we use op before vrijdag?
In Dutch, you always use the preposition op with days of the week. Just like in English you say 'on Friday', in Dutch it is op vrijdag.
Why is the word order hebben we instead of we hebben?
Because the sentence starts with the time phrase Op vrijdag. In Dutch, the main verb must always be in the second position of the sentence. When you start with a time or place instead of the subject, the verb and subject swap places so the verb can stay second. This is called inversion.
Why is it lange with an extra 'e' and not just lang?
The word training is a de word in Dutch. When you use the word een before a de word, any adjective describing it must get an extra -e at the end.
Why isn't vrijdag written with a capital letter?
Unlike in English, days of the week, months, and seasons are written with lowercase letters in Dutch. They only get a capital letter if they happen to be the very first word of a sentence.
