Questions & Answers about Imamo novac, to nije problem.
Why does the sentence use nije instead of nema?
Where is the word for "we" in the first half of the sentence?
In Croatian, the subject pronoun (like mi for "we") is usually left out. The ending of the verb tells you who is doing the action. The -mo at the end of imamo clearly shows it means "we have".
Why doesn't the word novac change its ending here?
The verb imati requires the thing you have (the object) to be in the accusative case. For masculine words that represent non-living things, like novac (money), the accusative form happens to look exactly the same as the basic dictionary form.
What role does the word to play in this sentence?
to is a general pronoun meaning "that" or "it". Here, it points back to the whole situation of having money, acting as the subject for the second half of the sentence: "that (situation) is not a problem."
