Questions & Answers about أردنا أن نتفق حتى ننجح في المشروع.
Why does نتفق have a doubled Taa' instead of a Waaw, given its root is و-ف-ق?
This verb is in Form VIII, which normally inserts a Taa' after the first root letter. For assimilated roots starting with a Waaw, the Waaw merges into that inserted Taa', creating a doubled letter with a Shadda. So instead of the expected 'nawtafiqa', it becomes نتفق (nattafiqa).
Why do the present tense verbs نتفق and ننجح both end with a Fatha (short 'a' sound) when spoken aloud?
They are both in the subjunctive mood. The verb نتفق is preceded by أن (to), and ننجح is preceded by حتى (in order to). Both of these particles force the present tense verb that immediately follows them to take a Fatha ending.
Why is the Alif missing in أردنا (we wanted) compared to its base form أراد (he wanted)?
The base verb أراد is a hollow verb, meaning it has a long vowel in the middle. When adding the 'we' suffix نا, the final root letter takes a Sukun (a vowelless marker). Because Arabic avoids having two vowelless letters in a row, the middle Alif is dropped to fix the clash, giving us أردنا (aradnaa).
What grammar pattern does the word المشروع (the project) follow?
It follows the مفعول (maf'uul) pattern, which is the standard shape for the passive participle (the thing being acted upon) in Form I. Derived from a root that means 'to begin' or 'to enact', المشروع literally means 'the enacted thing', which we translate as 'the project'.
