The verb encontrar means "to find" or "to meet / encounter". It is a classic o→ue stem-changing verb, regular in everything except the stem changes in the present tense and subjunctive. Because it is an -ar verb, there is no additional change in the preterite or gerund.

Used reflexively as encontrarse, it can mean "to meet up with someone" or "to feel" (a state). Encontrar is one of the most useful verbs in daily conversation, from looking for keys to meeting a friend.

Note the difference: encontrar (non-reflexive) means "to find"; encontrarse con means "to meet / run into someone"; encontrarse (alone) often means "to feel" (a state): ¿Cómo te encuentras hoy? = "How are you feeling today?"
