This B2 path addresses precision where systems meet: clitic roles and hosts, discourse-sensitive را, complex ezafe, and neighboring Persian standards. It introduces no construction; every stage consolidates earlier pages and ends with a diagnostic comparison.
Complete B2 Formal Public Persian first. Produce Iranian Persian consistently; treat Dari and Tajik as legitimate standards for receptive comparison, not error lists. Precision means identifying which system licenses a form and what it contributes.

Stage ۱: Identify a clitic’s role before moving it
Review The Six Pronominal Enclitics, then compare Clitics on Prepositions, Clitics inside Light Verb Constructions, and Experiencer Clitics. The same form ـش can mean “his/her/its,” “him/her/it,” or an experiencer depending on construction and host. Translation alone cannot identify the syntax.
گزارشش را خواندم و نکتههای مهمش را یادداشت کردم.
gozâresh-ash râ khândam va nokte-hâ-ye mohemm-ash râ yâddâsht kardam.
I read their report and noted its important points. (possessive clitics)
خبر را برایش فرستادم، اما هنوز ندیده است.
khabar râ barâ-yash ferestâdam, ammâ hanuz nadide ast.
I sent the news to them, but they have not seen it yet. (prepositional clitic plus recoverable object)
از این همه سر و صدا سردردم گرفت.
az in hame sar va sedâ sardard-am gereft.
All this noise gave me a headache. (experiencer encoded in سردردم)
Production goal: annotate twelve clitics by host, person-number, and role. Replace each with an independent phrase only to test the analysis; do not assume the expanded version has identical focus or naturalness.
Stage ۲: Build a reference chain before stacking
Study Clitic Ordering and Stacking, Clitic Doubling and Resumptive Use, and Null Objects and Recoverable Pronouns. Iranian Persian does not permit every logically imaginable stack. A zero object is natural only when discourse makes it recoverable; doubling can mark a topical or contrastive referent, but it is not a mechanical copy operation.
فایل را از مریم گرفتم، ویرایشش کردم و برای مدیر فرستادم.
fâyl râ az Maryam gereftam, virâyesh-ash kardam va barâ-ye modir ferestâdam.
I got the file from Maryam, edited it, and sent it to the director. (full noun, object clitic, then recoverable null object)
این پیشنهاد را من قبولش نمیکنم، ولی شاید سارا بپذیرد.
in pishnehâd râ man qabul-ash nemi-konam, vali shâyad Sârâ bepazirad.
This proposal, I won't accept it, but Sara may. (colloquial-neutral clitic doubling with contrast)
شمارهاش را پیدا نکردم؛ دوباره از خودش میپرسم.
shomâre-ash râ peydâ nakardam; do-bâre az khod-ash mi-porsam.
I couldn't find their number; I'll ask them directly again. (possessive and prepositional clitics on separate hosts)
Production goal: introduce two referents in full, continue with one clitic and one null object, then restore a full noun for contrast. Have a reader draw arrows to every antecedent.
Stage ۳: Treat را as a discourse choice
Use Complex Differential Object Marking with the synthesis page Independent Pronoun or Enclitic Object?. را is strongly associated with identifiable, specific, topical, or contrastive objects, but no single English article predicts it. Generic and incorporated objects often remain unmarked; context can shift the same noun phrase.
برای سفر دنبال راهنما میگردیم.
barâ-ye safar donbâl-e râhnamâ mi-gardim.
We are looking for a guide for the trip. (nonspecific role)
راهنمایی را که دیروز معرفی کردی پیدا کردیم.
râhnamâ-i râ ke diruz mo'arrefi kardi peydâ kardim.
We found the guide you introduced yesterday. (specific relative-clause object)
چای میخورم، ولی آن قهوه را برای مهمان نگه میدارم.
chây mi-khoram, vali ân qahve râ barâ-ye mihmân negah mi-dâram.
I'll have tea, but I'm saving that coffee for the guest. (generic choice versus identifiable object)
Production goal: use the same noun in three mini-contexts—nonspecific search, newly introduced specific item, and resumed known item. Explain every را choice without saying merely “definite article.”
Stage ۴: Parse advanced ezafe from the head outward
Study Ezafe with Comparative and Superlative Phrases, Ezafe with Verbal Nouns and Objects, and Explanatory Ezafe. Ezafe can link a head to a degree phrase, an event noun to one of its participants, or a general label to a specifying name. The visible word order may resemble possession while the semantic relation differs.
این دقیقترین گزارش گروه پژوهش است.
in daqiq-tarin gozâresh-e goruh-e pazhuhesh ast.
This is the research group’s most accurate report. (superlative phrase plus possessor)
بررسی کارشناسان دربارهی علت حادثه سه روز طول کشید.
barrasi-ye kârshenâsân darbâre-ye ellat-e hâdese se ruz tul keshid.
The experts’ investigation into the cause of the incident took three days. (verbal noun with agent and prepositional theme)
شهر رشت در این فصل بارانی است.
shahr-e Rasht dar in fasl bârâni ast.
The city of Rasht is rainy in this season. (explanatory ezafe: category plus name)
Production goal: bracket the head and each dependent in ten phrases. Rewrite any chain that permits two plausible attachment structures.
Stage ۵: Recognize Dari and Tajik without ranking them
Work through Dari Grammar for Iranian Persian Learners and Tajik Grammar and the Cyrillic Divide. Record four columns: source label, form, meaning in context, and Iranian Persian production counterpart. Shared vocabulary does not make grammatical distribution identical, and a standard-specific form is not an error.
این صورت در فارسی دری معیار است و نباید آن را غلط دانست.
in surat dar Fârsi-ye Dari-ye me'yâr ast va nabâyad ân râ ghalat dânest.
This form is standard in Dari and should not be called incorrect. (Iranian Persian metalinguistic statement)
برای خواندن تاجیکی باید خط سیریلیک را جداگانه یاد بگیرم.
barâ-ye khândan-e Tâjiki bâyad khatt-e Sirilik râ jodâgâne yâd begiram.
To read Tajik, I need to learn Cyrillic separately. (Iranian Persian learner statement)
در تولید به فارسی ایرانی پایبند میمانم، اما شکلهای دری و تاجیکی را تشخیص میدهم.
dar tolid be Fârsi-ye Irâni pâyband mi-mânam, ammâ shekl-hâ-ye Dari va Tâjiki râ tashkhis mi-daham.
I keep Iranian Persian as my production system but recognize Dari and Tajik forms.
Production goal: annotate a short verified passage from each page. Identify two shared structures and two standard-specific features; do not imitate an accent from spelling.
Stage ۶: Diagnose before correcting
Use Mixing Written and Colloquial Forms in One Sentence and Writing می and ها without ZWNJ. Assign every issue one label: malformed grammar, orthographic error, unintended register mixture, valid regional standard, or merely a stylistic preference. Only the first two demand unconditional correction.
این جمله درست است، اما برای گزارش رسمی بیش از حد گفتاری است.
in jomle dorost ast, ammâ barâ-ye gozâresh-e rasmi bish az hadd goftâri ast.
This sentence is correct, but it is too conversational for a formal report. (register diagnosis)
این املا مرز تکواژ را پنهان میکند و باید نیمفاصله بگیرد.
in emlâ marz-e takvâzh râ penhân mi-konad va bâyad nim-fâsele begirad.
This spelling hides the morpheme boundary and needs a ZWNJ. (orthographic diagnosis)
Common Mistakes
Treating every ـش as an object
⚠️ در «کتابش را دیدم»، ـش مفعول دیدن است.
dar ‘ketâb-ash râ didam,’ -ash maf'ul-e didan ast.
In ketâbash râ didam, -ash is the object of دیدن. (grammatical claim, wrong analysis: it is the possessor)
✅ در «کتابش را دیدم»، کتابش مفعول است و ـش مالک را نشان میدهد.
dar ‘ketâb-ash râ didam,’ ketâb-ash maf'ul ast va -ash mâlek râ neshân mi-dahad.
In ketâbash râ didam, ketâbash is the object and -ash marks the possessor.
Adding را because English has “the”
⚠️ برای صبحانه نان را میخورم.
barâ-ye sobhâne nân râ mi-khoram.
Grammatical with a specific bread in context, but wrong for the intended generic habit: English ‘the’ does not predict Persian را.
✅ برای صبحانه نان و پنیر میخورم.
barâ-ye sobhâne nân va panir mi-khoram.
I eat bread and cheese for breakfast. (generic/incorporated objects)
Reading every ezafe chain as possession
⚠️ در «شهر تهران»، تهران مالک شهر است.
dar ‘shahr-e Tehrân,’ Tehrân mâlek-e shahr ast.
In ‘the city of Tehran,’ Tehran owns the city. (grammatical claim, wrong semantic analysis)
✅ در «شهر تهران»، تهران نام و مشخصکنندهی شهر است.
dar ‘shahr-e Tehrân,’ Tehrân nâm va moshakhkhas-konande-ye shahr ast.
In ‘the city of Tehran,’ Tehran names and specifies the city.
Correcting another Persian standard into Iranian Persian
⚠️ هر صورت دری که در تهران نمیگویم اشتباه است.
har surat-e Dari ke dar Tehrân nemi-guyam eshtebâh ast.
Every Dari form that I do not use in Tehran is wrong. (grammatical sentence, false deficit judgment)
✅ صورت دری را با معیار دری میسنجم و معادل ایرانی را جدا یاد میگیرم.
surat-e Dari râ bâ me'yâr-e Dari mi-sanjam va mo'âdel-e Irâni râ jodâ yâd mi-giram.
I evaluate a Dari form by Dari norms and learn the Iranian equivalent separately.
Diagnostic exit task
Write a ۱۸۰-word commentary on a short verified Dari or Tajik passage. In Iranian Persian, identify its source standard, summarize its meaning, and discuss two clitics or object-marking choices and one noun-phrase structure. Separate genuine variety differences from register and spelling. End with a four-sentence Iranian Persian paraphrase rather than a word-for-word conversion.
Pass when every clitic has an identified host and role, every را receives a discourse explanation, every ezafe chain has one defensible parse, and no Dari or Tajik form is called defective merely because it is not the Iranian production target. Repeat only the stage whose label was wrong.
Key Takeaways
Precision begins with classification: role before clitic placement, discourse before را, structure before ezafe, and source standard before correction. Keep Iranian Persian coherent in production while expanding receptive competence across the Persian-speaking world.
