How is "açısından" formed here, and could I use "bakımından" instead?
Açısından comes from the noun açı (angle or perspective). It forms a noun compound with the preceding word (sürdürülebilirlik açısı - the angle of sustainability). Then, it takes the ablative case -dan (with a buffer -n-) to literally mean "from the angle of." And yes, you could absolutely use bakımından here; it is perfectly synonymous in this context.
"Sürdürülebilirlik" is a huge word! How exactly does it break down?
It is a great example of Turkish suffixes stacking up! The root is sür- (to continue/last). To this we add -dür (causative: to make last), -ül (passive: to be sustained), -ebil (ability: can be sustained), -ir (makes it an adjective: sustainable), and finally -lik (turns the adjective into a noun: sustainability).
Why is the dative case used in "zorluklara"?
This is a quick reminder for an earlier rule: the postposition rağmen (despite / in spite of) always requires the word before it to be in the dative case (-e/-a). Since zorluklar (difficulties) ends with a back vowel, it takes the -a suffix to become zorluklara.
The dictionary form of the verb is "desteklemek". Why does it become "destekliyoruz" instead of "destekleyoruz"?
This happens because of vowel narrowing. When a verb ends in a wide vowel like -a or -e and takes the present continuous suffix -iyor, that final wide vowel is forced to narrow into -ı, -i, -u, or -ü. Here, the final -e in destekle- narrows to -i.
