Questions & Answers about Olur da asıl pasaportunu çaldırırsan, bu yedek nüshayı güvenli bir yerde muhafaza et.
How does olur da work here, and why does çaldırırsan also have a conditional suffix?
Olur da translates to "if by any chance" or "just in case." Even though olur da already introduces the condition, the main verb in that clause must still take its own conditional suffix (-sa / -se). The structure requires both to work together; you cannot say olur da çaldırırsın.
Why use the causative çaldırırsan instead of the passive çalınırsa (if it is stolen)?
Çaldırmak is the causative of çalmak (to steal), literally meaning "to have something stolen." In Turkish, the causative is frequently used to describe a victim suffering an unfortunate event. While pasaportun çalınırsa just passively means "if your passport is stolen," pasaportunu çaldırırsan focuses on you as the person experiencing the loss.
Is nüsha just another word for "copy"? Could I use kopya here?
Yes, kopya would work perfectly well. However, nüsha is a slightly more formal word specifically used for duplicates, issues, or copies of printed texts and official documents, which fits the context of a passport.
Why use muhafaza et instead of a simpler verb like sakla?
