Questions & Answers about Yapımcı bu başyapıt için üç tane fragman hazırlayabilirdi.
How exactly does hazırlayabilirdi express "could have prepared"?
It combines the verb root hazırla- (prepare) with the buffer -y-, the ability suffix -abil, the aorist suffix -ir, and the past tense suffix -di. This specific combination of ability + aorist + past (-(y)abilirdi) is the standard way to express a counterfactual past ability—something the subject was capable of doing, but didn't.
Could we drop tane and just say "üç fragman"?
Yes, üç fragman is completely correct and means the exact same thing. Adding tane (meaning "item" or "piece") after a number is a very common habit in conversational Turkish for countable objects, making the sentence flow more naturally, but it is grammatically optional.
Is the word yapımcı (producer) related to the verb yapmak (to make)?
Exactly. The root yap- (make/do) takes the suffix -ım to form the noun yapım (production). Then, the occupational suffix -cı is added to mean "a person who makes productions"—in other words, a producer!
How is the word başyapıt (masterpiece) formed?
It is a compound word made of baş (head, chief, or main) and yapıt (a work of art or literature, which also derives from yapmak). It literally translates to "chief work," which perfectly matches the English concept of a masterpiece.
