Questions & Answers about Devam etmekte olan proje çok pahalı olduğuna göre, onu iptal etmek mantıklı.
How does olduğuna göre express 'since it is' in this sentence?
This structure combines the verb olmak (to be) with the fact-participle -dık (mutated to -duğ). We then add the 3rd person possessive -u, a buffer -n-, and the dative -a to link with göre (according to). Literally meaning 'according to its being', it is used to mean 'given that...' or 'since...' to set up a logical deduction.
Could I just use pahalı olduğu için instead of pahalı olduğuna göre?
You could, but the nuance changes slightly. Using için simply states a direct cause ('because it is expensive'). Using -dIğInA göre specifically emphasizes deductive reasoning ('given the fact that it is expensive...'). Since the second half of the sentence is a logical conclusion (iptal etmek mantıklı), this structure is a perfect fit.
Why use devam etmekte olan rather than just devam eden for 'ongoing'?
Both can translate to 'continuing' or 'ongoing'. However, the -mAktA suffix is a present continuous marker (similar to -Iyor) used often in written or formal contexts. Combining it with the subject participle olan (-mAktA olan) puts a stronger, slightly more formal emphasis on the action being currently in progress compared to the standard -An participle.
Why is onu in the accusative case here?
