Questions & Answers about Yazılım olsun, donanım olsun, bu yeni bilgisayar çok işlevsel.
How exactly does the olsun ... olsun structure work here?
In this sentence, olsun ... olsun translates to 'whether it be ... or ...'. It is an inclusive pairing expression used to emphasize that what follows (bu yeni bilgisayar çok işlevsel) applies equally to both items mentioned (yazılım and donanım).
Does olsun literally mean 'let it be' in this context?
Literally, yes, it means 'let it be software, let it be hardware'. It is the third-person singular imperative form of olmak (to be). However, in this paired structure, it has frozen into a set conjunction similar to 'whether... or...' or 'both... and...'.
Notice how yazılım (software) and donanım (hardware) look similar. How are they formed?
They both use the noun-forming suffix -ım. Yazılım comes from yazmak (to write) becoming the passive yazılmak (to be written), then turning into a noun. Donanım comes from donanmak (to be equipped). Together they form the standard Turkish terminology for software and hardware.
What is the suffix -sel doing in işlevsel?
