Questions & Answers about Bu saygın yazarın sanata büyük katkıları var, hatta ödüller aldı.
How exactly is hatta functioning in this sentence?
Hatta is an escalating conjunction. It is used to introduce a new piece of information that is even more surprising, impressive, or extreme than what was just said. Here, having "great contributions" is already impressive, but winning awards escalates it. It usually translates to "in fact," "moreover," or "even."
Why does the sentence use yazarın (the author's) instead of just yazar?
Turkish doesn't have a direct verb for "to have." Instead, it uses the genitive-possessive structure combined with var (there is). Bu saygın yazarın ... katkıları var literally translates to "This respected author's ... contributions exist," which is the standard way to say "This author has contributions."
Why is "to art" translated as sanata rather than using a word like için (for)?
The noun katkı (contribution) pairs with the dative case (-a/-e) to show the direction or target of the contribution. Just like in English where we say a contribution to something, Turkish adds the dative suffix -a to sanat (art) to make sanata.
The English translation says he "won awards", but doesn't aldı mean "took" or "bought"?
