Questions & Answers about Ya duvar kağıdı çok karanlık ya da aydınlatma çok kötü.
How does ya... ya da... work in this sentence?
It means "either... or...". You put ya before the first option and ya da (or sometimes just ya) before the second option. Here, it connects two complete mini-sentences: "the wallpaper is very dark" and "the lighting is very bad".
Why is it duvar kağıdı instead of just "duvar kağıt"?
This is a noun compound. When combining duvar (wall) and kağıt (paper) to make the single concept "wallpaper", the second word needs the possessive suffix -ı. Adding this vowel causes the hard t at the end of kağıt to soften into a d, making it kağıdı.
Where is the verb for "is" in this sentence?
There isn't one! In Turkish, you often don't need a word for "is" or "are" in simple descriptions. You just put the subject and the adjective together. Aydınlatma çok kötü literally means "lighting very bad", which perfectly translates to "the lighting is very bad".
What kind of word is aydınlatma?
It means "lighting" or "illumination". It is made by taking the verb aydınlatmak (to illuminate) and adding the suffix -ma, which turns the action into a noun. You might also recognize the related adjective aydınlık (bright).
