Have you ever been to a theme park and felt unwell from the dizzying speed, or watched a horror movie and tensed up from sheer fright? In Turkish, when we want to express the physical or emotional cause behind an involuntary reaction, we use the ablative case.

### The Ablative of Cause (-dan / -den)

The ablative case suffix is **-DAn** (which normally translates to "from"). When attached directly to a bare noun, it indicates the direct cause of an action or a physical state.

As always, this suffix follows vowel harmony and consonant mutation rules:
- It becomes **-dan** or **-den** after vowels and soft consonants.
- It becomes **-tan** or **-ten** after hard consonants (*f, s, t, k, ç, ş, h, p*).

For example, *dehşet* (terror) ends in a hard consonant and a front vowel, so it takes *-ten* to become *dehşetten* (from terror). Meanwhile, *coşku* (enthusiasm) ends in a back vowel, so it takes *-dan* to become *coşkudan* (from enthusiasm).

### Physical Triggers

You can use the exact same structure for external physical triggers that cause a bodily reaction, such as being up at a great height (*yükseklik*), feeling a sudden jolt (*sarsıntı*), or facing a strong wind (*rüzgâr*).

### Contrasting Causes
