Questions & Answers about Jag skriver ett likadant vykort till min syster.
Why does this sentence use likadant with a 't' at the end?
The word for postcard, vykort, is an ett word (neuter). Because it describes an ett word, the base form likadan gets a t added to the end to become likadant.
What is the difference between writing ett likadant vykort and samma vykort?
Samma vykort would mean you are writing on the exact same physical piece of cardboard. Ett likadant vykort means a second postcard that looks identical or has the exact same message on it. We use likadan for two separate things of the exact same kind or type.
Could I write this sentence without the preposition till?
Yes, you can drop till if you change the word order. You can say Jag skriver min syster ett likadant vykort, which works just like the English phrase I am writing my sister an identical postcard. Both ways are very common and natural.
Why is skriver translated as am writing instead of write?
Swedish does not have a separate continuous tense for actions happening right now. The present tense skriver covers both I write as a habit and I am writing in this exact moment.
