Questions & Answers about Vi har missat tåget. Alltså måste vi vänta.
Why does the second sentence say måste vi instead of vi måste?
Does alltså mean the same thing as the English word also?
No, this is a very common false friend! Alltså means therefore, thus, or in other words. If you want to say also or too in Swedish, you should use the word också.
Could I use så instead of alltså here?
Yes, you could say Vi har missat tåget, så vi måste vänta. Notice that så (so) acts as a conjunction here, just like och (and) or men (but), so it does not flip the word order. Alltså is an adverb, which is why it forces the V2 inverted word order.
Why is there no att before vänta?
Måste (must) is a modal verb. Just like in English, modal verbs in Swedish are followed directly by the bare infinitive of the next verb. You say måste vänta (must wait), never måste att vänta (must to wait).
