Questions & Answers about Den nya musen är trådlös och väldigt smidig.
How does the suffix -lös work in trådlös?
The suffix -lös works exactly like the English suffix "-less". It attaches to a noun to indicate "without". Here, it combines with tråd (wire or thread) to create trådlös (wireless).
Does the -ig ending in smidig mean something specific?
Yes, the suffix -ig is used to turn words into adjectives, similar to "-y" or "-ous" in English. Smidig originally relates to the concept of metal being easily shaped, which evolved into meaning flexible, smooth, or convenient in modern Swedish.
Why do we use nya instead of ny here?
Because the noun phrase is definite ("the new mouse"). In Swedish, when you use a freestanding definite article like Den, the adjective must take its definite form, which almost always ends in -a. You also need the definite ending on the noun itself (musen), which is a pattern known as double definiteness.
Could I use bekväm instead of smidig for "convenient"?
Not really. Bekväm mostly means "comfortable" (like a soft chair or a pair of shoes). Smidig is much better for describing tools, systems, or plans that are practical, flexible, easy to use, and hassle-free, just like a wireless mouse.
