Questions & Answers about Jag hoppas att det kommer att snöa imorgon.
Why do we use kommer att here instead of ska for the future?
We use kommer att for predictions and things we cannot control, like the weather. The word ska implies an intention or a deliberate plan, so saying det ska snöa sounds like the clouds made a plan to snow!
Why are there two att words in this sentence?
They do two different jobs. The first att joins the two parts of the sentence together and means "that" (I hope that...). The second att is a required part of the future tense phrase kommer att (will).
Do I always have to say the second att in kommer att snöa?
In standard written Swedish, yes. But in everyday spoken Swedish, the second att is very often dropped, so you will usually hear people say kommer snöa instead.
If I wanted to say "I hope it will NOT snow", where does the inte go?
Because att det kommer att snöa imorgon is a subordinate clause (a secondary phrase attached to the main sentence), the word inte must go before the first verb. You would say: Jag hoppas att det inte kommer att snöa imorgon.
Is imorgon pronounced exactly how it is spelled?
