Future predictions (kommer att)

Expressing the Future with "kommer att"

To talk about future events, especially predictions or things outside your direct control (like the weather), use kommer att followed by the infinitive form of the main verb.

It will rain a lot this weekend.
Det kommer att regna mycket i helgen.
This winter will be cold.
Den här vintern kommer att bli kall.
The concert will begin soon.
Konserten kommer att börja snart.

Questions and Negatives

To ask a question, swap the subject and the verb kommer.

Will it be very windy tonight?
Kommer det att blåsa mycket ikväll?
When will the match end?
När kommer matchen att sluta?

To make a negative prediction, place inte (not) between kommer and att.

It will not snow next week.
Det kommer inte att snöa nästa vecka.

Hopes and Beliefs

Kommer att is often paired with verbs like tror (believe) or hoppas (hope). These clauses are usually linked with the conjunction att (that). Don't let the double att confuse you—the first connects the phrases, while the second is part of the future structure.

I hope that it will snow tomorrow.
Jag hoppas att det kommer att snöa imorgon.
I think that this team will lose.
Jag tror att det här laget kommer att förlora.

Remember that in a subordinate clause (after the first att), the negative adverb inte moves before the verb kommer.

We hope that they will not lose.
Vi hoppas att de inte kommer att förlora.
