Questions & Answers about Vi ska åka till staden och träffa mannen.
How do we form the future tense with ska in this sentence?
To talk about future plans, we use ska (will / are going to) followed immediately by the dictionary form of the verb. That is why we use åka (go) right after ska without adding att (to) in between.
Why is the second verb träffa (meet) also in its dictionary form?
Because ska applies to both actions in the sentence! You can think of it as 'We will go... and meet...'. Since träffa is linked to ska by the word och (and), it stays in the bare infinitive form just like åka.
The English translation says 'go', but shouldn't we use gå instead of åka?
In Swedish, gå usually means to physically walk, while åka means to travel using a vehicle like a car, bus, or train. Since people usually take transport to get to a city, åka is the natural choice here.
I noticed both staden (the city) and mannen (the man) end in -en. Why is that?
