Why is a at the very beginning of the question?
In Spanish, you cannot end a sentence with a preposition like you can in English ("Which country are you traveling to?"). Instead, the preposition a (to) must go at the beginning, right before the question word: ¿A qué país...? (Literally: "To which country...?").
Why does this use qué (what) instead of cuál (which)?
Even though we say "Which" in English, Spanish almost always uses qué directly before a noun to mean "what" or "which". You will use qué + noun (qué país) when asking to identify something. The word cuál is practically never placed right before a noun in Latin American Spanish.
How does this relate to adónde (to where) from this lesson?
They are very similar! If you just wanted to ask "Where are you traveling to?", you would use adónde (¿Adónde viajas?). Because the speaker wants to know the specific country, they replace dónde (where) with qué país (which country). Notice how both questions must start with the preposition a (to) to show the destination of the travel.
Why is it viajas instead of a phrase for "are traveling"?
The present tense in Spanish is very flexible. Viajas can mean "you travel", "you do travel", or "you are traveling". At this level, you do not need a complicated verb tense to say "are traveling" because the simple present tense covers it perfectly!
