When you want to say "maybe" or "perhaps" in conversational Spanish, **a lo mejor** is one of the most common phrases you will use.

Even though it expresses doubt or probability, **a lo mejor** is strictly followed by the **indicative** mood, never the subjunctive. It works seamlessly with the present, past, and future tenses to talk about what might be happening or what might have happened.
